Apple’s mixed reality headset might look like this

Apple VR and the mixed reality headset have been rumored for some time. Unfortunately, despite the leaks and rumors, Apple has kept everything close to its chest. We don’t really know what that looks like either, although these renderings can give us a pretty good idea.

Courtesy of the concept creator Ian zelbo (Going through 9to5Mac), these new renderings are based on illustrations released by The Information earlier this year. These illustrations were apparently based on believable leaks, and if you’ve been paying attention to the rumors about Apple headphones, this design will look rather familiar to you.

From a design point of view, there aren’t really any surprises. The headset comes with a visor, which looks like foam padding, and a headband that is inspired by the Apple Watch sports strap, especially the metal clasp.

The most notable thing about this design is the curved glass visor, as most VR headsets are made of solid plastic. This design choice is undoubtedly due to the fact that Apple would like the device to offer virtual and augmented reality features, commonly known as mixed reality.

A glass visor could help conceal the camera lenses on the other side, which then feed into a real-time view of the world on the interior display. However, it doesn’t seem likely that glass will be what the user will be looking through, as the whole aspect of VR relies on the existence of an interior display.

The headset also appears to be rather small, which would match rumors that Apple was working on reducing weight as much as possible. Because no matter how comfortable a helmet is, a person cannot bear to carry a large and heavy device on their face.

Zelbo calls the headset “Apple View”, although that’s not its official name. As with so many other things, we have no idea what Apple plans to call the headset when it launches. Currently, there are rumors that the headset will arrive in late 2022 – possibly alongside the iPhone 14.

The Apple headset itself is also said to be a precursor to Apple’s augmented reality glasses. But in this case, Apple would skip the headset and add an AR screen to a regular-looking pair of glasses.

We don’t know when the Apple glasses are expected to arrive, but there are rumors that Apple’s plan is to use its mixed reality and VR headset to make it easier for people and developers to get into the idea of augmented reality. Because Apple glasses would be dead on arrival if there were no apps to use or if there were no people willing to wear them.

We’ll tell you more about the Apple Headset and Apple Glasses, as we hear it.
